This illustration is a first study for the archangel Raguel in a project I have in the works called "The Archangels and the Fallen Ones" which is inspired by Gustave Doré's illustrated novel of John Milton's, Paradise Lost
Raguel, which means "friend of God" is one of the Seven Archangels as listed in the ancient Enoch writings. Raguel is know to "take vengeance on the world of luminaries" or he is the one who watches over the good behavior of the angels.
